We have had it! Have you? This tragedy happened as a result of poor policies and political greed. If you have had enough of the violence and the lack of justice, we invite you, family and friends to join us and speak up and let Mayor Adler, the city council, and the DA Jose Garza know how you feel. Demand that they protect you like they protect themselves. Our children are not disposable. We must stop supporting these self serving politicians and support the people who count which are the citizens and our law enforcement. These politicians will race bate, lie, and promise anything to stay in power. Their children are not dying, our children and families are. The policies must change to protect all of us. We must come together and stop the garbage being spewed from our so called leaders. This type of leadership gives bad people a reason to commit crimes without consequences. This should never be accepted or be thought of as the norm. We need to pay attention stand up and make the change needed or our children will never have the life of feeling safe and free. As a family without Doug we try to stay strong and every family will express their pain differently…for us it’s shattered glass and every step is extremely painful and empty. We want to hear about your loss and the policy makers should hear you too. If we don’t speak up loud and clear they won’t care.
What Do I Write or Say?
We encourage you to include the following points below when contacting the Disctrict Attorney's Office, Mayor of Austin, and Austin City Council.
- Keep all individuals responsible for this shooting in jail and not in the streets. One of the individuals (Jeremiah Tabb) being prosecuted is currently out in the public and not in jail as he should be. This is a major threat to the safety of the Austin community and a dangerous precedent to set for other individuals with similar crimes.
- Demand increased funding of anti-gang police unit that was previously dismantled in 2021. We should not be ignoring addressing gang violence and instead attacking it head on to protect the people of Austin.
- Increase police presence to prevent crimes like this that occured on 6th street. Densely populated areas should have increased protection to keep all of safe.
- Demand weapon restrictions in densely populated areas where alcohol is served.
